Medicine and Chernobyl (Didcot Group)
In 1986, one of the reactors at the Chernobyl Power Station in the Ukraine exploded. 70% of the resulting radiation fell on neighbouring Belarus, causing contamination considered far worse than that at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Every year, families from Didcot, Oxfordshire and the surrounding area play host to a group of children from Belarus whose lives have been adversely affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
